Coheelee Creek Covered Bridge in Early County, Georgia, is believed to be the southernmost original covered bridge in the United States. Construction was first authorized by the Early County Board of Commissioners in 1883 but was not contracted until July 7, 1891. The 121-foot bridge with 14-foot width and modified queen post truss design was completed in four months at a cost of $490.41. It was restored in 1984.
