Wheeling Covered Bridge, Gibson County, Indiana
The Wheeling Covered Bridge was built in 1877 by William T. Washer over the Patoka River in Gibson County, Indiana. This 163-foot single-span bridge features Smith Type IV Through Truss construction and rests on sandstone abutments from an adjacent quarry, with modern steel cribbing forming two middle supports. The bridge was closed to motor traffic in 1976.
