Otway Covered Bridge, Scioto County, Ohio
The Otway Covered Bridge is a one-span wooden Smith truss bridge crossing Scioto Brush Creek in Scioto County, Ohio, built in 1874 by the Smith Bridge Co. of Toledo. Arches were added to the structure in 1896. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it was bypassed in 1963 and restored in 2014. As the lone survivor of approximately 80 covered bridges once erected in Scioto County, the Otway stands as a testament to 19th-century engineering, having endured the technological revolutions of steel, modern railroads, and the automobile.
