Smolen-Gulf Covered Bridge, Ashtabula County, Ohio

The Smolen-Gulf Covered Bridge, completed in 2008, is the longest covered bridge in the United States at 613 feet. It was constructed with 613,000 board feet of timber and reinforced with nearly half a million pounds of steel, designed to handle full legal loads including 80,000-pound tractor-trailers. The bridge was named in honor of the county engineer at the time.
