Thompson Mill Covered Bridge, Shelby County, Illinois
Thompson Mill Covered Bridge crosses the Kaskaskia River 2 miles northeast of Cowden, Illinois. Built in 1868 as a Howe truss bridge, it is the narrowest covered bridge in Illinois at 10 feet 7 inches wide and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 13, 1975. The bridge is now closed to automobile traffic but remains open to pedestrians.
