Jay Covered Bridge, Essex County, New York

The Jay Covered Bridge is a single-span Howe truss bridge built in 1857 by George M. Burt and covered in 1858, spanning 175 feet across the East Branch of the Au Sable River in Essex County, New York. It was removed in 1997 to permit construction of a temporary bridge and storage during rehabilitation, then rebuilt in 2004 and moved across the river in 2007. The bridge is now open only to pedestrian traffic and remains one of only three Howe truss covered bridges in New York State.
