Alamuchee-Bellamy Covered Bridge, Sumter County, Alabama
The Alamuchee-Bellamy Covered Bridge, built in 1861 by Capt. William Alexander Campbell Jones, is a single-span Town truss wooden bridge originally spanning Alamuchee Creek. The bridge originally crossed the Surcarnoochee River on the main road from Livingston to York; in 1924 it was moved about 5 miles and continued to be used until 1958. It was then moved to Duck Pond on the University of West Alabama campus in Livingston and restored between 1969-1971. The bridge is currently maintained by the Sumter County Historical Society and is eligible for addition to the National Register of Historic Places.
