Humpback Covered Bridge, Alleghany County, Virginia

Humpback Covered Bridge, built in 1857, is a 100-foot covered bridge over Dunlap Creek in Alleghany County, Virginia. It is the only surviving humpback-style covered bridge in the United States, distinguished by its arched design built higher in the middle than at either end. The bridge is supported by a Multiple King Post Truss with Arch and is located 3 miles west of Covington, Virginia adjacent to U.S. Highway 60. The bridge was closed to motor traffic in 1929 and underwent complete restoration in 1953.
