Bunker Hill Covered Bridge, Catawba County, North Carolina

The Bunker Hill Covered Bridge in Catawba County, North Carolina, was built in 1895 by Andrew Loretz Ramsour to cross Lyle Creek on the old Island Ford Road, which was an ancient Indian trail. Originally constructed as an open span bridge, it was covered around 1900. The bridge was fastened together with wooden pegs and remains sturdy today. It is one of only two remaining covered bridges in North Carolina and is possibly the last wooden bridge in the United States with Haupt truss construction. The bridge was restored in 1994 by the Catawba County Historical Association after being donated by the Bolick family in 1985.
