Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge, Cecil County, Maryland

Gilpin's Falls Covered Bridge is a Burr arch through truss wooden covered bridge in Bay View, Cecil County, Maryland, constructed by bridgewright Joseph George Johnson in 1860–1861 across North East Creek. At 119 feet in length, it is the longest remaining wooden covered bridge in Maryland and one of two surviving covered bridges in Cecil County. The bridge was bypassed in 1936, suffered a roof collapse in 1958, and was repaired and rededicated in 1959–1960. Following vandalism and repairs in 1971, ownership transferred to Cecil County in 1989, when it underwent rehabilitation including steel plate installation. Insect damage was addressed in 1999, followed by complete rehabilitation in 2009–2010 and repainting in 2015.
